Allgaier has a smooth ride to second place at Dover

DOVER, Del. – After leading most laps, a slow final pit stop kept Justin Allgaier from retaking the lead in the A-GAME 200 at Dover Motor Speedway.

“It’s frustrating that we had a good car at the last pit stop and what could and should,” Allgaier looked back after the race. “I felt like Josh (Berry) did a great job all day but in the end I knew with the adjustment we made we would be in good shape there.”

The tenth race on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule had only five warnings. That didn’t come as a surprise to Allgaier, but the warnings that fell outside of the stage warnings were admittedly untimely for the #7 Chevrolet. Although Allgaier was not the one to take the checkered flag at the end of the race, he was one of four JR Motorsports teammates to finish in the top five, including Sam Mayer, who struggled twice in the race with a lost tire and a pit lane Penalty.

“I’m proud of our team that finished 1-2-4-5, especially with the difficulties Sam had,” Allgaier said. “Driving back through the field twice like that was pretty incredible. I wanted it so badly but we’ve had such bad luck here lately that it’s nice to get one that’s relatively unproblematic.”

A big anticipation for the Monster Mile weekend was sponsorship from popular racing podcast Door Bumper Clear. Allgaier rated himself “spot on” for his performance in the race.

“They will give me a spot for my performance today, a spot for finishing second and not making it to victory lane,” Allgaier smiled with a chuckle. “Proud to have them on. I’ve been with JRM for a few years now so watching Door Bumper Clear grow into what it has is so awesome. And these guys put their heart and soul into the show and you can see that and so does Casey (Boat) – I keep saying these guys, Casey is a big part too. Proud to have them in the car.”

Allgaier now sits fifth in the Xfinity Series points standings with Brandon Jones, 110 points behind current leader AJ Allmendinger. The series next competes at Darlington Speedway on Saturday, May 7th.
